Species: Basilosaurus sp.
Size: 2.79" = 7,09 cm
Location: Dakhla, Western Sahara, Morocco
Age: Late Eocene (~40 Million years)
Condition: Repaired fractures and the tips have been restored

Research on Basilosaurus has revealed evidence of feeding on fish and smaller whales. Its teeth provide a direct connection to the feeding adaptations of early whales, before the emergence of the modern whale groups.

It was once believed to have been some sort of prehistoric reptile when it was first discovered in the United States during the 19th century. This is the reason Basilosaurus, a name that meaning "king lizard," was given to it in 1834.

This specimen is offered as Basilosaurus sp., without a confirmed species identification. Attribution of isolated early whale teeth can be difficult and should be supported by their anatomy and documented provenance.
